Income Under $150,000

From 1 July 2026, your combined household taxable income must be $150,000 or less per year. Previously the cap was $210,000. Over 80% of existing Solar Homes customers remain eligible under the new rules.

Property Value Under $3 Million

The property where solar is being installed must be valued below $3 million, for an existing home, or once construction is complete for a new build.

No Prior Solar Rebate

The property address must not have previously received a solar panel or battery rebate under the Solar Homes Program, and must not have had solar installed in the last 10 years.

Authorised Retailer Required

You must use a Solar Victoria authorised retailer such as Silicon Solar. We upload your quote directly into the Solar Victoria portal and manage the entire process on your behalf.

Victorian Property Address

Income Cap Change Takes Effect Tomorrow, 1 July 2026

The Solar Homes Program income cap drops from $210,000 to $150,000 per year starting 1 July 2026. If your household income is between $150,000 and $210,000, applications must be submitted in full through the Service Victoria portal by 5pm today, 30 June 2026, to be assessed under the current higher cap. Rebate values themselves remain unchanged at up to $1,400. The program continues to support Victorian households, with 28,854 solar PV rebates available in the 2026 to 27 financial year. How much is the Victoria solar rebate in 2026?

Eligible Victorian homeowners can receive a rebate of up to $1,400 toward the upfront cost of a solar panel system under the Solar Homes Program. You can also opt into an interest free loan of up to $1,400, bringing total government support to $2,800. On top of this, the federal Small-scale Technology Certificate discount typically reduces your cost by a further $1,000 to $1,500 depending on system size and location. What is the difference between the state rebate and the federal STC discount?

The Victorian Government rebate, up to $1,400, is a state level incentive through the Solar Homes Program, applied directly to your invoice by your authorised retailer. The STC discount is a federal government incentive based on Small-scale Technology Certificates, generated when your solar system is installed and representing the estimated clean energy it will produce until 2030. The STC discount is automatically deducted from your quote by your installer. Both incentives can be claimed together, which is why solar remains one of the best financial decisions a Victorian homeowner can make.

Can I get the Victoria solar rebate on a rental property?

Yes. Rental providers, or landlords, can claim a rebate of up to $1,400 for solar panel installation on up to two rental properties per financial year. From 1 July 2026, the renters’ combined household income must be $150,000 or less. An interest free loan is also available. Can I apply for the rebate if my home already has solar panels?

Generally, the rebate is not available if the property address has previously received a Solar Homes rebate, or if a solar system was installed within the last 10 years. However, if you have moved to a new home, you may be eligible at your new address provided it has not received a rebate before. What solar panels are eligible for the Victoria rebate?
