The Solar Homes Program offers multiple rebate streams. Silicon Solar helps you claim every incentive you are eligible for, stacked together for maximum savings.
Solar Panel (PV) Rebate
The flagship rebate for owner occupiers installing a rooftop solar system at an existing Victorian home. Applied directly at point of sale, so you pay less upfront on the day of installation.
- Owner occupiers and rental providers eligible
- Also available for homes under construction
- Stacks with federal STC discount
- Optional interest free loan to match rebate
Federal STC Discount
Every solar installation in Australia qualifies for Small-scale Technology Certificates under the federal Renewable Energy Target. The discount is built directly into your installer’s quote, no separate number needed up front.
- No separate application required
- Amount depends on system size and zone rating
- STC values reduce slightly each year until 2030
Solar Victoria Loan
In addition to your rebate, you can opt into an interest free loan of the same amount. The loan is paid directly to your solar retailer, further reducing your out of pocket cost on installation day.
- Repaid monthly over 4 years, $29.17 a month
- Debited automatically from your bank account
- No collateral required
Solar for Rental Properties
Landlords, known as rental providers, can claim a rebate of up to $1,400 on solar panel installation for up to two rental properties per financial year. Renters benefit from lower electricity bills.
- Available to rental providers in Victoria
- Renters’ combined income must be under $150,000 from 1 July 2026
- Increases property value and rental appeal
Federal Home Battery Discount
Pair your solar panels with a CEC approved home battery and store excess solar energy for use at night. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program currently discounts a typical 10 to 13kWh battery by around $3,000 to $4,200, applied upfront by your installer.
- Combine with your solar panel rebate and STC discount
- Backup power during outages with select systems
- Discount tapers as battery capacity increases beyond 14kWh

Victoria Solar Rebate and Melbourne Solar Panel Questions
Everything Victorian homeowners ask us about the Solar Homes Program, solar panel installation and rebate eligibility in 2026.
How much is the Victoria solar rebate in 2026?
Eligible Victorian homeowners can receive a rebate of up to $1,400 toward the upfront cost of a solar panel system under the Solar Homes Program. You can also opt into an interest free loan of up to $1,400, bringing total government support to $2,800. On top of this, the federal Small-scale Technology Certificate discount typically reduces your cost by a further $1,000 to $1,500 depending on system size and location. All three incentives can be stacked. For current rebate details, visit solar.vic.gov.au/solar-panel-rebate.
What is the income limit for the Victoria solar rebate from July 2026?
From 1 July 2026, your combined household taxable income must be $150,000 or less per year to qualify for the Solar Homes Program rebate. The previous cap was $210,000. Households between $150,000 and $210,000 needed to submit a complete application by 5pm on 30 June 2026 to be assessed under the old cap. Solar Victoria has confirmed rebate values remain unchanged, and over 80% of existing Solar Homes Program customers still qualify under the new $150,000 threshold. A total of 28,854 solar PV rebates are available in the 2026 to 27 financial year.
What is the difference between the state rebate and the federal STC discount?
The Victorian Government rebate, up to $1,400, is a state level incentive through the Solar Homes Program, applied directly to your invoice by your authorised retailer. The STC discount is a federal government incentive based on Small-scale Technology Certificates, generated when your solar system is installed and representing the estimated clean energy it will produce until 2030. The STC discount is automatically deducted from your quote by your installer. Both incentives can be claimed together, which is why solar remains one of the best financial decisions a Victorian homeowner can make.
Can I get the Victoria solar rebate on a rental property?
Yes. Rental providers, or landlords, can claim a rebate of up to $1,400 for solar panel installation on up to two rental properties per financial year. From 1 July 2026, the renters’ combined household income must be $150,000 or less. An interest free loan is also available. The program benefits both landlords, who receive a valuable property upgrade, and tenants, who see lower electricity bills. For full details visit solar.vic.gov.au/solar-rebates-rental-properties.
Can I apply for the rebate if my home already has solar panels?
Generally, the rebate is not available if the property address has previously received a Solar Homes rebate, or if a solar system was installed within the last 10 years. However, if you have moved to a new home, you may be eligible at your new address provided it has not received a rebate before. Call us on 1300 772 829 and we will check your eligibility free of charge.
What solar panels are eligible for the Victoria rebate?
You must use products from the Solar Victoria approved product list to qualify for the rebate. Silicon Solar only installs approved tier 1 panels and inverters. Your installer is required to use only products on the current Solar Victoria product list. We keep our product range fully compliant so your rebate is never at risk.
How long does the rebate application take?
Silicon Solar handles the quote upload to the Solar Victoria portal within one business day of your approval. Eligibility confirmation from Solar Victoria typically takes a few business days once you have submitted all required documents through the Service Victoria portal. Once approved, installation must be completed within 120 days, or 270 days for new builds. We recommend starting the process as early as possible, especially given the monthly release of rebates which can fill quickly.
Which solar system sizes are best for Melbourne homes?
The most popular system sizes for Melbourne homes are 6.6kW, 10kW and hybrid systems with battery storage. A 6.6kW system suits most average households and qualifies fully for the Victorian rebate and STC discount. A 10kW system is suited to larger homes or households with higher energy usage. Adding a battery through our battery program lets you store excess solar energy and use it at night. Our solar specialists will recommend the right size for your home during your free consultation.
