How to Choose the Right Solar System Size
- Check your daily usage. Your bill shows average kWh per day. Many Victorian homes use somewhere between 12 and 25 kWh.
- Look at when you use power. Solar saves the most when you use it during the day. High evening use points towards a battery.
- Measure your roof. Each modern panel needs about 2 square metres. North facing roofs are ideal, and east and west roofs work well too.
- Know your supply. Most single phase homes suit up to 6.6kW of panels on a 5kW inverter. Larger systems usually need three phase.
- Plan ahead. An EV, heat pump hot water or a move away from gas will increase your usage, so size for the next five years.
